Google acquires a new marketing director of mobile apps from GetJar

 Patrick Mork

While GetJar has been busy mixing words with Apple over the use of the App Store moniker, Google has stepped in and snagged their chief marketing officer, Patrick Mork. Mork, who has been a part of GetJar since 2008 will be heading to Google as their marketing director of mobile apps. This info confirmed via Morks personal blog and an email sent off to his fellow employees at GetJar:

I'd like to thank all the people who are part of GetJar's ecosystem for having made this experience possible. The reality is that our growth and success would not have been possible without the support of our investors at Accel, our content partners and developers and the enthusiasm and encouragement of our supporters in the press. Each one of you has played a special and unique role in helping GetJar become what it is to today and I've greatly enjoyed working with each of you.

So what's next? ;) Well, I'm an apps guy at heart and always looking for a good fight as you know! So I'll be joining Google as Marketing Director for Mobile Applications the first week of September.

The loss for GetJar doesn't seem overly impacting at this time. They now have 50 employees and are planning a launch of new products and offerings over the next couple of months however, the gain here for Google remains to be seen. Patrick Mork has a pretty solid background in marketing strategy, PR, developer marketing, and business development so it'll be interesting to see what he accomplishes within Google.
